How to Subscribe/Use RSS
Sat, 2006-09-02 01:54 2087 days ago
Intro
What Is It? RSS = Really Simple Syndication
Time = $. Save both. Track changes and updates to multiple sites (including ours) all at once. See who’s doing what as it happens, from anywhere… PC, Mac, mobile phone… using free software you probably already have. You don’t even have to visit our site after grabbing a subscription link.

RSS is especially useful because frequent readers like yourself don’t have to constantly surf to each of their favorite websites individually. Instead, an RSS reader pulls in short summaries of recent changes to ALL sites as they happen, including (of course) all of our members updates, and also include links back to the full articles as well. More about RSS from Answers.com.
How to Subscribe
Anyone can subscribe to our site; you don’t have to be a registered member.
First, you need an RSS “reader”— we currently recommend the recently upgraded & free Google Reader news reader because there’s nothing to download/install. Google Reader works from almost any web browser, including many of the latest mobile/smartphones!
- If you’re using a dedicated RSS reader or service, such as Google Reader, right-click on any of the RSS links (examples:
or RSS) throughout this site. Then copy the link, and follow your reader’s directions for where to paste. Members and non-members alike can subscribe to our
main news feed, or for greater flexibility, see our Directory to narrow subscriptions down to just a single type (e.g., film, tv, theatre, etc), status (e.g., castings, callbacks, readings, etc), role (e.g., lead, supporting, etc), and more. Or any combination, the choice is yours, and you can change/update your subscriptions at any time.
Here’s a screenshot of what Google Reader looks like in action (my own subscription list on the left is highlighted as an example):
-
Or, if your web browser is new & hip enough to have integrated support for RSS (as Apple’s Safari, Mozilla’s Firefox, and Opera do), you can left-click on any of the orange squares
throughout this site. Actually, anyone can feel free to try it, as it won’t break anything, it’s just sometimes hard to read that way depending on what browser you’re using (we recommend you use the latest version of Firefox).
More Free RSS/News Readers
So where do you get a featured (and free!) RSS reader?
Use the FREE Google Reader news reader (Win/Mac; fast, highly recommended… upgraded 9/29/06)
- Get the FREE Blogbot news/blog reader for MS Outlook (Win only)
- Use the FREE Bloglines blog reading service (Win/Mac)
- Use the FREE Newshutch news reading service (Win/Mac; simple interface)
- Use the FREE NewsAlloy news reading service (Win/Mac; detailed but powerful interface)
Free Browsers
Along with RSS support, the following web browsers are also recommended for their speed and stability:
- Get the FREE Firefox browser (Windows/Macintosh)
- Get the FREE Opera browser (Windows or mobile phone)
