The Raconteur
Presents
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
A Play by Anthony Burgess
Directed and Designed by Alex Dawson
The Forum Theatre
314 Main Street, Metuchen, NJ
Dawson’s steampunk* version of Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange starring Michael Nathanson as head droog Alex (helming a cast of 13), features fight choreography by Broadway’s The Fight Guys and an eclectic soundtrack of nineteenth century concertos, eighties Brit-pop and contemporary Ukrainian punk, all spun/scratched/mixed by an onstage DJ sitting atop a dilapidated clock tower that rises fifteen feet above the boards. Using an aesthetic he describes as “Oscar Wilde meets Mad Max,” Dawson, collaborating with Manhattan fashion designer Anu Susi, abandons the sleazy seventies vibe of Kubrick’s film for a sort of banged-up, industrial elegance: Victorian suits with goggles, massive buckled boots and, of course, the iconic bowler.
*Steampunk concerns work set in a world resembling the Victorian past in which modern technological paradigms occurred earlier in history, but were accomplished via the science already present in that time period (steam engines, clockwork devices, etc.). Early authors of this subgenre were Jules Verne, H. G. Welles and Mary Shelley. Contemporary examples include V for Vendetta.

Due to a sudden and temporarily debilitating blow to our upcoming production of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, the show has regrettably, after much deliberation, been postponed. We are, however, confident that after a marshaling of forces we will be able to resume production mid or late Winter. We’ll be in touch with concrete info as it becomes available.
